The Powell Street Promenade is now being installed on the blocks of Powell Street between
Geary and Ellis.
The Promenade will be an extension of the sidewalks into the parking lane creating more seating and pedestrian enjoyment in a more open and inviting space. Vehicles and Cable Cars will still have a lane of traffic in both directions, and white zones in front of the hotels will remain open. The Promenade will be occupying the parking meter spots and yellow zone spaces.
The Promenade is a public-private partnership with the Union Square Business Improvement District, Audi and the City of San Francisco. It should be finished in early July and will be in place for years. I am really looking forward to it. I think it will be a great addition to the area and make the pedestrian experience much more enjoyable.
